Is Don Mattingly sending a message to Andre Ethier?

Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier is not in Wednesday's lineup. Standard day off? Not really. Here's the relevant tweet from Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times ...

I do believe I detect a not-so-subtle jab therein. The Dodgers will be facing Brewers right-hander Wily Peralta, and Scott Van Slyke will be manning right field. The only thing Ethier does well on a baseball diamond is hit right-handed pitching (no, he's not a good fielder, regardless of that Gold Glove -- poor range), and even this year he has a respectable .263/.371/.394 slash line against the opposite side. Then throw in the fact that Ethier is 3-for-7 with a triple, a homer and walk over the first two game of the series.

Don Mattingly's choice of words in tandem with the fact that a righty is starting for the opposition make it sound as though this is more than just a day of rest for Ethier.

On that front, Donnie Baseball had best be careful, lest he find himself on the receiving end of an Andre Ethier Stare of Daggers:
