Potentially troubling news for the Brewers, as right-hander Kyle Lohse has been scratched from his next scheduled start because of "irritation" in his throwing elbow.'s Adam McCalvy reports that Lohse began experiencing discomfort two or three starts prior, according to manager Ron Roenicke.

"He could go out and pitch," Roenicke told McCalvy. "But because he didn't have a spring training, we would rather try to get rid of this, so we're going to bump him a start."

On the season, Lohse has pitched to a 3.76 ERA, 107 ERA+, 1.27 WHIP and 3.70 K/BB ratio across nine starts. Last year, with the Cardinals, Lohse finished seventh in the NL Cy Young balloting.

Lohse had been scheduled to take the mound on Saturday against the Pirates, but now Mike Fiers will start instead. According to McCalvy, the Brewers are hoping Lohse will be able to start during their series against the Twins next week.

Lohse is in the first year of a three-year, $33-million contract that he signed in late March.
