Reds opening day left fielder Ryan Ludwick has been on the disabled list since the first week of the season after dislocating his shoulder on opening day. He had to undergo surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder and faces a long recovery.

Though Ludwick hasn't suffered a setback in his rehab, he wishes to soften expectations of a July return.

“People seem to be under the impression that I'll be back in the middle of July, and that's a complete lie,” Ludwick said (via C. Trent Rosecrans). “I can't even resume baseball activities until July 3, so it's at least the middle of August. I can't even throw a baseball or swing a bat until July. I've got a whole lot of stuff to do. I've got to get in baseball shape, as they call it. You take three, four months from throwing a baseball, it's going to take a while to get your arm back in shape.”

Ludwick, 34, hit .275/.346/.531 with 26 homers and 80 RBI in 125 games for the Reds last season. He was then brought back this past offseason on a two-year deal. He drew walks in his only two plate appearances this season.

Reds left fielders (mostly Xavier Paul and Chris Heisey) are hitting .230/.312/.326 with three homers and 17 RBI this season, so they are certainly missing Ludwick's power production.
