The Cleveland Indians have placed closer Chris Perez on the 15-day disabled list with right-shoulder soreness, the club announced Monday. Perez left his outing on Sunday in Boston in obvious pain. As a corresponding move, the Indians have recalled left-handed reliever Nick Hagadone.

Indians manager Terry Francona has announced that Vinnie Pestano will be the closer with Perez on the shelf.

Perez missed a large amount of spring training with a shoulder injury and has struggled of late. In his last three outings, he has coughed up seven earned runs in just 2 2/3 innings (23.63 ERA), so it's entirely possible those woes are shoulder-related.

This season, Perez, 27, is 6-for-8 in save chances with a 4.32 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 18 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings. The two-time All-Star had a 0.64 ERA before his last three outings, however.

Pestano has a 5.25 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 12 innings this season.
