The Cleveland Indians placed closer Chris Perez on the disabled list on Monday due to a right shoulder injury. The team announced Tuesday an MRI revealed Perez has mild tendonitis in his rotator cuff.

Due to the tendonitis, Perez will be shut down from throwing for at least five days before he's re-evaluated, according to the Associated Press.

Perez blew a three-run lead in his outing on Sunday, which he left in pain. He also dealt with shoulder issues in spring training, so it's possible this has been an ongoing issue or at least something that resurfaced.

Perez, 27, is 6-for-8 in save chances with a 4.32 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 18 strikeouts in 16 2/3 innings. The two-time All-Star had a 0.64 ERA before his last three outings, however, in which he allowed seven earned runs in just 2 2/3 innings. So, again, there's a chance he was hampered in those poor performances.

With Perez out of commission, Vinnie Pestano will serve as the Indians' closer.

Entering Tuesday's action, the Indians had lost six of their last seven. This coming after a 22-game stretch where they went 18-4.
