Each player took part in an extended spring training game on Tuesday and are now headed to Double-A Trenton. The guess is they'll be playing in front of a few more people there.
I guess me and Youk don't have the drawing power we used to. Announced attendance at our Extended Spring Training game this morning was 3.— Mark Teixeira (@teixeiramark25) May 26, 2013
Teixeira and Youkilis are expected play for Trenton on Wednesday and Thursday. If all goes well, they could both be activated Friday in time for a big three-game series against the Red Sox.
Teixeira, 33, has been out since early March with a tendon sheath injury in his wrist. He hit .251/.332/.475 with 24 homers, 84 RBI and 27 doubles in 123 games last season. When Teixeira does return, he'll take over for Lyle Overbay at first base. Overbay is hitting .251/.296/.473 with eight homers and 28 RBI this year.
Youkilis, 34, has been out since April 27 with a lumbar spine sprain. He's hitting .266/.347/.422 with two homers and seven RBI in 17 games this year. David Adams has been playing third lately for the Yankees, hitting .295/.311/.500 with two homers and five RBI in just 11 games.
Also of note for the walking wounded of New York:
