The Toronto Blue Jays announced Wednesday that third baseman Brett Lawrie has been placed on the disabled list with a sprained left ankle. He suffered the injury Monday while sliding into second base, as seen above.
Lawrie did stay in the game after the injury, though he was replaced after limping to third base.
Lawrie, 23, is hitting .209/.268/.374 with five homers and 14 RBI in 37 games this season. He opened the season on the disabled list with a ribcage injury.
In some other roster shuffling, the Jays also optioned right-handed pitcher Thad Weber to Triple-A Buffalo while designating right-handed pitcher Ramon Ortiz and first baseman Clint Robinson for assignment. As corresponding moves, left-handed pitcher Juan Perez and right-handed pitchers Todd Redmond and Neil Wagner have been promoted to the majors.
