Mets left-hander Jon Niese will miss his next scheduled start after being diagnosed with tendinitis in his throwing shoulder. Andy Clayton of the New York Daily News reports that Collin McHugh -- and not top prospect Zack Wheeler -- will be called up to start in place of Niese on Saturday against the Marlins.
Mets manager Terry Collins says he thinks Niese could be back in time to start June 7. If Niese isn't able to stick to that time-table, Clayton notes, then he'd likely be placed on the disabled list.
This season, the 26-year-old Niese has pitched to a 4.40 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 1.25 K/BB ratio in 61 1/3 innings. For his career, he owns an ERA+ of 93 across parts of six major-league seasons.
