The Dodgers have announced that lefty reliever Scott Elbert will undergo Tommy John surgery, reports Steve Dilbeck of the Los Angeles Times.

Elbert will undergo the procedure next week and be sidelined for the next 12 to 16 months. This will be the third time within a calendar year that Elbert has had surgery on his elbow. He also underwent shoulder surgery in 2007.

This season, the 27-year-old Elbert has pitched to a 2.20 ERA in 32 2/3 innings. For his career, he owns a 108 ERA+, 1.34 WHIP and 2.24 K/BB ratio.
