Ian Stewart criticizes Cubs' front office on Twitter

Third baseman Ian Stewart has almost 500 major-league games to his credit, but he's spent the entire 2013 season in the minors, where he's put up a batting line of .164/.279/.345 for Triple-A Des Moines, the Cubs' top affiliate. To hear Stewart tell it on Twitter, he's not entirely pleased with his current straits ...

That's the tweet that began a lenghty back-and-forth between Stewart and his followers regarding his future with the Cubs. Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune provides a summary:

When someone told Stewart to “just keep grinding… and rake,” he responded: “I honestly believe if [Luis] Valbuena were to get hurt they wouldn't call me up. Back up. Just MHO.”

One person tweeted Stewart to say he was “worthless” and should “quit baseball.” Stewart replied: “why would I quit. I'm making 2 mill in AAA like u would give that up by quitting.”

Stewart also tweeted: “I meant they might as well release me since I have no shot at a call-up.” Explaining why he thought the Cubs didn't want him up, he tweeted: “I think Dale [Sveum] doesn't like me and he's running the show.”

There's more, and Sullivan has all of it in the above link.

As for Stewart, his candor on social media probably didn't advance his goal of making it back to Chicago.
