After Thursday brought us three more extra-innings games, Major League Baseball is on a historic pace, notes Jason Lukeheart of Ground Ball With Eyes.

With 110 extra-innigs affairs to date and 983 of 2,430 games this season in the books, the pace is 272 games going past the ninth.

Here are the top 10 seasons of all-time in terms of the number of extra-inning games (full list available on Baseball-Reference.com's play index):

(Year, number of extra-inning games)

1. 2011, 237
2. 1986, 220
3. 1991, 220
4. 2007, 220
5. 2010, 220
6. 1996, 218
7. 2004, 218
8. 1977, 212
9. 1982, 212
10. 1992, 210

It's interesting how the entire list is relatively recent. Some of that is the number of games played in an entire season. Before 1962, the schedule was 154 games instead of 162 and early in the century there were a few 140-game slates. Still, we're seeing an awful lot of free baseball in this current era.

And in 2013, Major League Baseball is on pace to shatter its own record.
