Utility man Jeff Baker is hitting .386/.491/1.000 againt left-handed pitchers this season, but he is not in the Rangers lineup against southpaw Mark Buehrle on Friday night. Why? Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram explains:
An over-the-top high-five from a teammate Thursday sprained Jeff Baker's thumb. He can't grip a bat.— Jeff Wilson (@JeffWilson_FWST) June 14, 2013
Believe it or not, that is no worse than the second-most embarrasing high-five related injury in Rangers history. Right-hander Charlie Hough missed two weeks -- including his scheduled opening-day assignment -- in 1986 because he broke his pinky during an elaborate handshake with a friend.
Baker, 31, is day-to-day and will avoid the DL.
