Blue Jays shortstop Jose Reyes has managed to play in only 10 games this season after severely spraining his ankle April 12 against the Royals. He might be able to return before the end of June, however.

MLB.com reports that Reyes played two innings and got three at-bats in a simulated game Friday and is expected to begin a rehab assignment with Class-A Dunedin Monday.

"It's a pretty good injury, so we have to ease him into it, too," manager John Gibbons said (MLB.com). "He can do all of those drills on the field, but it's still not like reacting in a game. It'll be a build-up thing, but the hitting and timing at the plate is important, too."

Gibbons went on to tell MLB.com that the plan is to have Reyes in rehab games for two weeks, meaning it's possible his return happens against the Rays in a series that takes place June 24-26.

Reyes, 30, is hitting .395/.465/.526 with two doubles and a home run in 43 plate appearances this season. In 160 games for the Marlins last year, he hit .287/.347/.433 with 37 doubles, 12 triples, 11 homers, 40 steals and 86 runs.
