Rangers activate Ian Kinsler from disabled list

The Texas Rangers have announced that All-Star second baseman Ian Kinsler has been reinstated from the disabled list and will be in the starting lineup Saturday against the Blue Jays. As a corresponding move, infielder Leury Garcia has been optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.

Kinsler's return is ahead of the schedule laid out earlier this week, when the Rangers said he might be able to come back Sunday.

In addition to Kinsler being activated, the news here is that Jurickson Profar stays with the Rangers. Profar, 20, entered the season touted as the top prospect in baseball and was promoted to the bigs when Kinsler hit the DL. He's hit .278/.326/.392 with three doubles and two homers in 87 plate appearances and apparently the Rangers believe he'll get enough playing time in the majors to keep him aboard.

Still, expect Kinsler to be the everyday second baseman. The three-time All-Star is hitting .302/.369/.500 with 11 doubles, seven homers, 20 RBI and 24 runs scored in 40 games this season. He's also an excellent defender.
