Rays right-hander Alex Cobb is expected to be released from the hospital Sunday after being hit by a line drive in the head Saturday. The team placed him on the seven-day concussion DL but does not have a timetable for his return.

The line drive that hit the 25-year-old Cobb was clocked at more than 102 mph. He was taken off the field in a stretcher but was later diagnosed with nothing more than a mild concussion. That is obviously the best-case scenario. It was a terrifying scene.

In 13 starts this year, the righty is 6-2 with a 3.01 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 83 2/3 innings. He's taken a big step forward in his first full year as a big leaguer and has been the team's most reliable starter while David Price battles injury and ineffectiveness.

Earlier this year Blue Jays left-hander J.A. Happ took a fastball to the head on the same mound Cobb occupied Saturday. Happ suffered a small skull fracture that was described as neither serious nor threatening. He remains on the DL with a knee injury suffered while falling to the turf after the liner.
