Now that his free agency and arbitration clocks have been pushed back one year, the Rays are calling up top outfield prospect Wil Myers, the team announced. He will join the club on Tuesday for its series opener against the Red Sox.

Myers, 22, was acquired from the Royals as the centerpiece of the James Shields trade this past offseason. Baseball America ranked him as the fourth-best prospect in baseball before the season, saying he "projects as an eventual No. 3 hitter in the lineup because of his batting eye and power potential" in their 2013 Prospect Handbook.

In 63 games at the Triple-A level this year, Myers hit .283/.354/.514 with 14 home runs and seven stolen bases. Last year he hit .314/.387/.600 between two levels, and his 37 homers were the second most in all of the minors. Kansas City drafted him in the third round of the 2009 draft and paid him a $2 million signing bonus.

To clear a spot on the roster, the Rays will send infielder Ryan Roberts to Triple-A. The 32-year-old hit .238/.294/.349 (81 OPS+) in 47 games coming into Sunday.
