As previously noted in this space, Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira got some positive news from a recent MRI on his injured right wrist. However, as CBS New York notes, GM Brian Cashman would still prefer to place Teixeira on the 15-day disabled list. In fact, Cashman said during a Monday conference call that he's "leaning toward" placing Teixeira on the DL and that the first baseman would likely be sidelined for at least a week.

Teixeira wasn't able to make his 2013 debut until May 31 after he initially suffered the right-wrist injury in March. On Saturday against the Angels, Teixeira aggravated that injury.

The 33-year-old Teixeira is batting .151/.270/.340 this season with three home runs in 15 games. He's signed through the 2016 season.

If Teixeira does go on the DL, he'll join fellow Yankees Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Curtis Granderson, Kevin Youkilis, Francisco Cervelli, Eduardo Nunez and Michael Pineda.
