Leading up to the return of Johnny Cueto from the DL, the Reds for a time seemed poised to return hard-throwing left-hander Tony Cingrani to the minors. Now, though, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the Reds, after deciding to keep Cingrani on the 25-man roster, will instead use him as a reliever.
"He fills what we need," Reds manager Dusty Baker said of Cingrani's upcoming transition. "We need a power arm out of the bullpen, and a lefty."
This season, the 23-year-old Cingrani has a 3.15 ERA and 29.3 K% in seven starts this season. Last season, he made two relief appearances in the majors and one in the minors.
