The Braves have placed catcher Evan Gattis on the 15-day DL with an oblique strain, the team announced. Infielder Tyler Pastornicky was recalled from Triple-A to fill the roster spot.

Gattis, 26, has hit .252/.317/.577 (138 OPS+) with 14 home runs in 53 games for Atlanta this season. He handled the majority of the catching duties while Brian McCann was on the DL earlier in the year, and he's also spent time at first base and in left field. He's also gone 6-for-8 with four homers as a pinch-hitter.

Before breaking in with the Braves, Gattis quit baseball during his college days in 2006. He worked as a parking valet, in a pizza parlor, as a ski-lift operator and as a janitor before returning to baseball in 2010. Atlanta drafted him in the 23rd round that summer.

Pastornicky, 23, is hitting .309/.351/.429 with four homers and seven stolen bases in 57 Triple-A games this year. He's a career .239/.282/.324 (63 OPS+) hitter in 82 big-league games with the Braves over the last two years.
