The Yankees have placed Mark Teixeira on the 15-day DL with inflammation in his right wrist, the team announced Tuesday. He left Saturday's game and went for tests on Sunday.

Teixeira, 33, suffered an injury to the tendon sheath in his wrist back in March and did not rejoin the team until late last month. He played only 15 games before aggravating the injury. An MRI showed only inflammation and no new tear in the wrist. He received a cortisone shot.

In the 15 games between injuries, Teixeira went 8 for 53 (.151) with three home runs. He has been unable to do his usual pregame hitting routine due to lingering discomfort, hitting coach Kevin Long confirmed. GM Brian Cashman said he was leaning toward placing Teixeira on the DL even though he was originally listed as day-to-day following the cortisone shot.

The Yankees recalled right-hander Adam Warren to replace Teixeira on the roster. The 25-year-old owns a 3.12 ERA in 34 2/3 long relief innings this year. New York also designated righty Chris Bootcheck for assignment and called up outfielder Zoilo Almonte.
