You can file this under something that I never thought I would see: Shawn Carter, better known as Jay-Z, is now a licenced player agent, the MLBPA has announced.

Back in April, Yankees second baseman Robinson Cano ditched Scott Boras in favor of Roc Nation, Jay-Z's entertainment company. Roc Nation got into sports representation as part of a partnership with CAA Sports, which is when the world learned Jay-Z wanted to become an agent. He has obviously accomplished that goal.

It's unclear how active the rapper and media mogul will be in negotiations for his clients, but it was reported that Brodie Van Wagenen of CAA Sports would handle Cano's upcoming contract. Cano is due to become a free agent this winter, and the Yankees have confirmed preliminary extension talks have already taken place. I assume Jay-Z will take on a more active role as time goes on.

Along with Cano, Roc Nation also represents NFL players Victor Cruz and Geno Smith, NBA star Kevin Durant and WNBA player Skylar Diggins. Jay-Z recently became a certified NBA agent as well and is working towards NFL certification.

Juan Perez, the president of Roc Nation, was also granted MLB agent certification along with employee Rich Kleiman.
