One day after removing the struggling Andrew Bailey from the role of closer, Red Sox manager John Farrell told reporters on Friday that he has tabbed Koji Uehara as his new closer (boston.com).

Uehara, 38, has 15 career saves -- 13 of which came with the Orioles in 2010 -- and has primarily been a setup man throughout his five-year career. This season, he has a 2.10 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 42 strikeouts in 30 innings, so he appears an excellent choice.

Bailey desperately needed a break from the closer's role after blowing three saves in his past five outings with a 15.75 ERA and 3.25 WHIP in four innings.

Farrell also noted that Junichi Tazawa, Andrew Miller and Bailey himself might factor in as closers at some point, considering they didn't want to overwork Uehara. Still, it's Uehara's job right now.
