Phillies setup man Mike Adams was placed on the disabled list Saturday due to what at the time was called biceps tendinitis, but it may be far worse than that. General Manager Ruben Amaro told reporters Monday that an MRI had revealed "changes in the labrum" that might require season-ending surgery.

"Of course I'm worried," Amaro said (Philly.com). "I have to be worried. He's had nicks and knacks, but this is a little bigger than that."

Adams is going to meet Tuesday with Dr. Neal ElAttrache -- who performed Roy Halladay's shoulder surgery -- to determine the severity of the injury and a course of action.

Adams, 34, has been among the best setup men in baseball since 2008 when healthy. Toward the end of last season he faltered as he dealt with thoracic outlet syndrome and then this season has been hampered by back and biceps issues.

In 28 appearances for the Phillies, Adams has a 3.96 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 23 strikeouts in 25 innings. He signed a two-year, $12 million contract with the Phillies this past offseason.
