Hill, 31, has been on the DL since mid-April with a broken left hand. He went 11 for 36 (.306) with two home runs in 10 games before getting hurt. Last season, Hill hit .302/.360/.522 (133 OPS+) with 26 home runs and was one of the most productive second basemen in the game.
Arizona has primarily used a platoon of Willie Bloomquist and Cliff Pennington at second base during Hill's absence. The duo combined to hit a solid .271/.321/.352 during that time, but I'm sure the team is looking forward to the big offensive upgrade at the position.
Paterson, 27, has appeared in two games this season, allowing one run in 2 1/3 innings. He managed to hit three of the 11 batters he faced. In 39 career innings, Paterson has held lefty batters to a .228/.314/.326 line.
