The Pirates and first-round pick Austin Meadows have agreed to a deal, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com. Jim Callis of Baseball America says Meadows will receive the full $3,029,600 slot value.

Meadows, 18, is a high school outfielder from Georgia. Baseball America ranked him as the sixth best prospect in the draft class, saying he has "a smooth, easy swing that he repeats and he covers the plate well ... he has the leverage to hit for corner-profile power."

Pittsburgh selected Meadows with the pick they received as compensation for failing to sign Stanford right-hander Mark Appel in 2012. Appel returned to school and was selected first overall by the Astros this year.

The Pirates took high school catcher Reese McGuire with the 14th overall pick, their regular first rounder.
