Paul Konerko went for an MRI on his problematic back on Thursday, the White Sox announced. He received six injections and will continue to get treatment. A trip to the DL is a possibility if he's not healthy enough to play by Sunday.

Konerko, 37, has been dealing with lower back soreness in recent days. He's had some minor on-and-off back issues in recent years. Konerko will take batting practice on Saturday and Sunday before deciding whether he's healthy enough to return to action.

In 66 games this year, Konerko has hit .253/.319/.373 with seven home runs, good for a career-low 86 OPS+. Last season he put up a .298/.371/.486 (129 OPS+) line with 26 homers, which is right in line with his career averages.

Adam Dunn will step in and play first base during Konerko's absence. Dunn is hitting .194/.303/.460 (102 OPS+) with 20 homers.
