A-Rod is slated to join Class A Charleston on Tuesday. He'll man third base and, barring incident, play a minimum of three innings in his first game. From that point, Rodriguez will have 20 days to work his way back to the Yankees' active roster. Rodriguez is recovering from January surgery on his left hip.
You'll of course recall that A-Rod initially tweeted that doctors had cleared him to play and that Yankees GM Brian Cashman had a fairly strong and profane reaction to said tweet.
Rodriguez, who'll turn 37 later this month, is coming off a 2012 season in which he batted .272/.353/.430 with 18 home runs in 122 games. This season, Yankees third basemen have combined to hit only .231/.293/.315.
