Not long ago, the Pirates were forced to shut down lefty Wandy Rodriguez, who's been on the DL since June 6 with a forearm strain. Now, Rodriguez has received a platelet-rich plasma injection, and, as Michael Sanserino of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette notes, that means at least three weeks of rest, treatment and rehabilitation -- longer if the PRP treatment doesn't yield improvement. In other words, Rodriguez's return to the Pittsburgh rotation is not in sight.

This season, the 34-year-old Rodriguez is 6-4 with a 3.59 ERA across 12 starts.

Given the injuries to Rodriguez and A.J. Burnett (calf), the Pirates' rotation presently consists of Francisco Liriano, Jeff Locke, Gerrit Cole, Charlie Morton and Jeanmar Gomez.
