Tigers starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez is working back from a shoulder issue, and he started a game for Class A Lakeland as part of a rehab program on Monday night. Unfortunately, he's suffered a setback. reports that Sanchez had to leave in the third inning after just 23 pitches after being struck in the back of his left leg by a line drive. The report notes that his removal was for precautionary reasons, but he was slated to throw around 60 pitches and possibly join the Tigers after that.

Instead, getting in only 23 pitches means Sanchez will need at least one more rehab appearance before returning to Detroit.

Sanchez, 29, is 6-5 with a 2.76 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 101 strikeouts in 81 2/3 innings this season for the Tigers. He's in the first year of a five-year, $88 million deal.

Jose Alvarez, Sanchez's replacement in the rotation, was shelled by the Blue Jays on Monday afternoon, coughing up four earned runs on six hits in just three innings. He now has a 5.03 ERA.
