Tigers starting pitcher Max Scherzer worked 6 1/3 strong innings for the Tigers Wednesday night, allowing two earned runs and striking out eight. And his team provided him with six runs in support, so he picked up the 6-2 victory. And he's now 13-0.

This means Scherzer is the first person since 1986 to start the season 13-0, when Roger Clemens pulled it off. Clemens started 14-0 that year. He would go on to win the AL Cy Young and MVP awards that season after going 24-4 and leading the league in ERA and WHIP.

The only players since 1920 to start 13-0 or better (via Elias Sports Bureau):

Dave McNally, 15-0, 1969
Johnny Allen, 15-0, 1937
Clemens, 14-0, 1986
Scherzer, 13-0, 2013

McNally would end up going only 20-7 after that blazing start for the Orioles. He finished fourth in AL Cy Young voting.

Allen actually only ended up with 16 total decisions in 24 starts in 1937, as he lost his last start -- in a 1-0 complete-game loss, no less -- to finish 15-1. The Cy Young wasn't yet around, but the Indians hurler did finish 13th in AL MVP voting.

So, yeah, Scherzer is in rarified air. He also sports a 3.09 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and 139 strikeouts, which is second only to Yu Darvish.

Scherzer's next start will come against the Indians Monday. He is 7-4 with a 4.76 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in his career against the Indians. This season, though, he's 2-0 with a 2.81 ERA in two starts.
