As John Dujay of Canada.com details, Blue Jays catcher J.P. Arencibia, in a Thursday radio appearance, pretty much emptied both barrels on Sportsnet television analysts Gregg Zaun and Dirk Hayhurst, who have been highly critical of Arencibia's play this season. Now hear this ("this" being Arencibia's sharp words):

"It's unfortunate that fans have to hear those guys talks as much as they do. There's not one person in the clubhouse that respects those guys.

"Not a lot of us, including myself, respect the person that uses performance-enhancing drugs and was able to stick around as a below-average player in the major leagues. ...

"I never put anything in my body.

"With Dirk Hayhurst, there was a guy who had below-average baseball tools. ...

"I think a lot of the world is based on negativity. Maybe they could give the fans the knowledge, but those guys should know how hard it is, because one of them didn't play in the major leagues for more than a month.

"The other one (Zaun) had a good career, but wasn't that great either."

Well then. The PED comment is in reference to Zaun's being named in the Mitchell Report, but, as Dujay notes, Arencibia counts none other than Melky Cabrera as being among his present teammates.

While this strikes me as a bit overboard, Zaun and Hayhurst traffic in edgy, pointed commentary, so it's expected that on occasion some of that will be redirected toward them.

For what it's worth, Arencibia this is season is batting .216/.244/.420 with 15 homers.
