Diamondbacks center fielder Adam Eaton has been activated from the disabled list and will lead off Tuesday night for NL West leader Arizona against the second-place Dodgers, the club announced Tuesday afternoon.

Eaton, 24, entered the season as a consensus top 100 prospect in all of baseball but hasn't been able to play with the D-Backs all season due to an elbow injury suffered this spring. He would have been the center fielder entering the season if not for the injury.

A setback in late May further delayed Eaton's debut -- until now.

Eaton was outstanding in Triple-A last season before hitting .259/.382/.412 with two homers and two stolen bases in 103 plate appearances for the Diamondbacks.

In 26 minor-league games this season, Eaton is hitting .256/.367/.378 with five doubles, two homers and eight stolen bases.

Eaton provides good speed atop the lineup and gives an even bigger boost in terms of range in the outfield. With Eaton in center and Gerardo Parra manning a corner, Arizona pitchers should feel free to allow plenty of fly balls.
