All-Star Game Remember When: Bo Jackson steals the show

The 2013 All-Star Game is less than one week away, so we're going to spend some time looking back at classic Midsummer Classic moments. We've already looked at Pedro Martinez's dominance in 1999 and Cal Ripken Jr.'s last ride in 2001. Now it's time to go back to the 1980s.

The 1989 All-Star Game was played at what was then called Anaheim Stadium, now known as Angel Stadium. President Ronald Reagen spent an inning in the booth with Vin Scully, Disney characters mingled with players on the field during pregame warm-ups, and The Tonight Show band played the national anthems. It was very Hollywood-like, but once the game got underway, it was all about Bo Jackson.

The two-sport star made his only MLB All-Star appearance that year, and boy did he leave a lasting impression. In the top of the first inning, Jackson ended the National League's rally with a running catch in left field to rob Pedro Guerrero of a run-scoring single. In the bottom of the first, he hit a leadoff home run to dead center field off Rick Reuschel. It was estimated at 450 feet. In the second inning, he beat out a double-play ball and stole second base. Here's the video:

Jackson chipped in a single in the fourth and went 2 for 4 with the homer and two RBI en route to winning MVP honors. To this day, he remains the only player in history to hit a home run and steal a base in the same All-Star Game.

There has not been another athlete like Jackson. Mike Trout is the probably the closest thing in baseball today, but even he doesn't have the "wow factor" that Jackson had. Trout also doesn't have a Bobblehead Project entry either.

Jackson was truly one of a kind, and back in 1989 he stole the show on baseball's biggest stage.
