On Friday night in an eventual loss to the Mariners, Astros outfielder Brandon Barnes made a bit of history when he hit for the cycle. Barnes' eighth-inning double cinched the feat:

On the night, Barnes -- who, in addition to the double noted above, also homered in the second, tripled in the fourth and singled in the sixth and ninth -- added 58 points of OPS to his 2013 numbers.

The 27-year-old Barnes becomes the first Astro to hit for the cycle since Luke Scott in 2006. His was also the first five-hit game by an Astro since Hunter Pence on May 27, 2008.

Barnes, a rookie, is now batting .250/.306/.375 on the season.
