Tim Hudson suffers fractured ankle on gruesome play at first base

Braves righty Tim Hudson had to be carted off the field on Wednesday night after Mets outfielder Eric Young Jr. accidentally stepped on his right ankle/foot at first base. He was later diagnosed with a fractured ankle. Hudson will undergo surgery and then miss the remainder of the 2013 season.

Here is video of the play, but you are forewarned; it's rather gruesome:

Hudson, 38, was in obvious pain and stayed down on the field for a few minutes before being carted off. Young had tears in his eyes when he went over to apologize. It was a pretty brutal scene.

In 20 starts coming into Wednesday, Hudson had gone 7-7 with a 4.08 ERA and 1.21 WHIP in 123 2/3 innings. He held the Mets to two runs on four hits in 7 2/3 innings before the injury.
