Rangers reliever Tanner Scheppers is fortunate in that he has just a few bruises and lacerations to show for what could have been a scary turn of events. Scheppers tells reporters that after arriving in Cleveland on Thursday for the weekend series against the Indians, he was jumped by several males on the street near the team hotel and "sucker punched."

"One of those freak things," Scheppers said (source: Ft. Worth Star-Telegram). "I was just getting food and was blindsided. ... It's something you don't want to be talking about. You want to be talking about baseball things."

Scheppers, who said the assailants scattered after he fell to the ground, declined to file a police report. Scheppers was unavailable Friday because of headaches, but, as the Star-Telegram notes, he has passed all concussion tests.

This season, the 26-year-old right-hander has pitched to a 1.74 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 1.88 K/BB ratio across 46 appearances.
