The Braves activated center fielder B.J. Upton off the 15-day DL prior to Saturday's game. Catcher Gerald Laird was placed on the 15-day DL to clear a roster spot.

Upton, 28, had been on the DL since mid July with a right adductor strain. He went 4-for-12 with three doubles in three minor league rehab games with the team's Triple-A affiliate. It was the fourth DL stint of his nine-year career.

In 84 games before the injury, Upton hit a very disappointing .177/.266/.300 (54 OPS+) with eight home runs and seven stolen bases. He had been hitting after the calendar flipped to June, putting up a .220/.312/.373 batting line with four homers and four steals in 38 games prior to the injury.

Laird, 33, had a kidney stone removed on Thursday. The Braves will go with Evan Gattis as Brian McCann's backup behind the plate for the time being. Laird hit .293/.384/.400 (115 OPS+) in 88 games before being placed on the DL.
