After spending several weeks trying to cope with a finger injury, outfielder Carlos Gonzalez has finally been placed on the 15-day DL by the Rockies. It's officially a sprained joint of the right middle finger.

Gonzalez, 27, has tried choking up on the bat and taping the finger heavily, but to no avail. It's been bothering him for about a month now. CarGo sat out several consecutive games at different points hoping it would help.

In 103 games this season, Gonzalez has hit .302/.367/.591 (145 OPS+) with 26 home runs, 21 stolen bases and a league-leading 231 total bases. He was named to the All-Star team for the second time but had to bow out of the Home Run Derby because of the finger.

To fill the vacated roster spot, the Rockies have called up veteran left-hander Jeff Francis from Triple-A Colorado Spring. The 32-year-old has a 6.63 ERA and 1.56 WHIP in 54 1/3 innings for Colorado this season.
