First, the Rays have designated for assignment veteran reliever Kyle Farnsworth. The 37-year-old right-hander has pitched to a 5.76 ERA in 2013, and across parts of three seasons in Tampa Bay he owns an ERA of 3.54 with 25 saves.

To replace Farnsworth on the active roster, the Rays have recalled 28-year-old Josh Lueke, who has a 3.75 ERA in 12 innings this season for the Rays.

With Lueke, though, the story is never about just his pitching. In 2008, Lueke pleaded down from rape charges and eventually served 42 days -- time served -- for "false imprisonment with violence."

The details of the case are, to be frank, stomach-turning. As he continues with his baseball career, Lueke's past should not be forgotten.
