Yankees wearing their BP hats for Friday's game (for a good cause)

Outside of the league-wide military-themed hats for Memorial Day and the Fourth of July, the Yankees have been wearing that same ol' blue hat with the interlocking NY since the franchise came to be in 1913. The hat is iconic, you see it all over the world.

On Friday night, the Yankees took the field not with their usual lids, but with their white-brimmed batting practice hats. Needless to say, this is unusual. Here's a look:

So what's the deal with the change? Are they trying to mix things up in hopes of improving their recent poor play? Did they forget their hats on the recent road trip?

No, it's for charity. The Yankees are wearing the hats as part of their partnership with New Era and the David C. Koch Foundation to help fight cancer. The team has not messed with their uniform for a century now, but this is a pretty great reason. Bravo, Yankees.
