As expected, the Diamondbacks have placed outfielder Cody Ross on the 15-day DL with a dislocated right hip. Manager Kirk Gibson told reporters surgery is likely, and although no official timetable was given, the team hopes he'll recover in time for spring training.
Ross, 32, suffered the dislocation while running out a ground ball on Sunday. Here's the video; it's a completely innocent looking play. Ross remained on the ground for a few minutes before being carted off the field.
In 94 games before the hip injury, Ross hit .278/.331/.413 (104 OPS+) with eight home runs. This is his first season in Arizona after signing a three-year contract over the winter. He missed the start of the season with a calf strain.
In other roster moves, the D-Backs recalled left-hander Tyler Skaggs and right-hander Chaz Roe from Triple-A Reno. Righty Zeke Spruill was sent down to clear the other roster spot.
