Cingrani was speaking with pitching coach Bryan Price when an athletic trainer was called to the mound along with manager Dusty Baker. Cingrani then left the game and was replaced by Alfredo Simon.
Obviously, it's too early to know the severity of the injury, but this could be pretty bad for the Reds. Cingrani, 24, has been a great fill-in for Johnny Cueto through his three DL stints this season. Cingrani is 6-2 with a 2.76 ERA in 16 starts.
Also keep in mind, Cueto recently got some bad news as to his possible return.
Should Cingrani be forced to the disabled list, the Reds would possibly go with Greg Reynolds in Cingrani's spot. He was 11-3 with a 2.50 ERA for Triple-A Louisville heading into his Tuesday start, but the 28-year-old right-hander is 5-9 with a 7.55 ERA and 1.70 WHIP in his big-league career (99 innings).
