After weeks of leaks and potshots, Alex Rodriguez is putting an end to all of the off-field rhetoric surrounding his 211-game suspension and battle with both the Yankees and MLB. He told reporters he is "shutting down" all of the distractions.

"I've shut everything down," he said, referring to public statements from his legal team. "I think it's the best thing to do for all of us, is to focus on the game."

A-Rod confirmed he told his lawyer Joseph Tacopina to no longer speak publicly about their various legal matters. Tacopina recently accused the team of hiding MRI results from his client and playing him while hurt in an effort to embarrass him.

The back and forth between MLB and A-Rod has become too much to bear in recent weeks -- I think everyone can agree about that, regardless of your stance in this whole mess -- so the silence is a welcome development. Will it actually happen? I'm guessing not. At least A-Rod tried.
