CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Orioles have acquired outfielder/DH Michael Morse from the Mariners. In exchange, the M's will receive minor-league outfielder Xavier Avery.

This season, Morse, age 31, is batting .226/.283/.410 with 13 homers in 76 games. On the upside, his numbers are better outside of pitcher-friendly Safeco, and he's slugging .459 against lefties.

While Morse has no business playing the field, he does provide right-handed pop (he had a 31-homer season with the Nationals in 2011). On that front, it's worth noting that the Baltimore designated hitters this season have combined to bat just .217/.279/.393. Morse could help, provided he's platooned.

Morse is owed the balance of a $6.75-million salary for 2013 and is eligible for free agency this offseason.

As for Avery, the 23-year-old this season has batted .259/.340/.345 with three homers and 29 stolen bases for Double-A Bowie and Triple-A Norfolk.
