Rockies star outfielder Carlos Gonzalez has been activated from the disabled list in time for Tuesday's game, the club has announced.

Gonzalez, however, is not ready to hit with his balky right middle finger, as Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports Cargo is available for defense and pinch runner only. Renck also notes it's possible Gonzalez can return to full-time duty Wednesday.

Gonzalez, 27, is hitting .302/.367/.591 with 26 homers and 70 RBI in 103 games this season. His middle finger has been bothering him since before the All-Star break, derailing an MVP-caliber season. The reason for his activation despite not being fully ready is that the minor-league seasons are all mostly over and the rosters are expanded. Thus, it doesn't hurt the Rockies at all to have him active in terms of their number of bench players.
