WARNING: Pirates' Andrew McCutchen on new cover of 'SI'

The Sports Illustrated cover jinx -- a phenomenon so hauntingly real, so objectively verifiable that the unimpeachable Wikipedia has an electric page devoted to it -- apparently has the peoples'-champion 2013 Pirates in its lame-wad sights.

Yes, soon to hit newstands and leave those newstands in smoldering ruins is this ...

That, bone-chilled onlookers, is Andrew McCutchen, heretofore a leading NL-MVP candidate.

Illustrators of sport: Have you no sense of decency?

For what it's worth, the last Bucco to be commandered by the cover of SI was ... Jason Grilli, who was pictured astride the July 22 issue and then, that very same day, hurt his arm while playing the only game he ever loved.

Dark days, these.
