One of modernity's delights is the photographic capture of human faces in "fight or flight" mode. The sub-genre of "what people look like when a foul ball is hurtling toward them" is, for the purposes of this space, a particularly rich example.
Take, for instance, the faces of Red Sox rooters when a recent foul ball made its way into their personal space ...
So much wonder from which to choose!
Note especially the contrast between the standing, reaching gentleman at center-left -- in the red and blue shirt -- who uses that precise same expression when watching reruns of "Antiques Roadshow" and the seated gentleman at center right, who has never before surveyed such mortal horrors.
Also, honorable mention to the kid in blue who may have used the surrounding chaos as an opportunity to pole-ax another kid -- possibly his brother, possibly a complete stranger -- in the face with his glove. Or not.
