Tigers masher Miguel Cabrera, who's been battling hip and abdominal strains in recent days, is not in the lineup for Wednesday night's series finale against the Red Sox. "He's a little sore today so I'm not playing him," Detroit manager Jim Leyland said of the decision (source: Detroit News).

Cabrera, after missing the previous three games, returned to the Detroit lineup on Tuesday night but went 0-for-4 with a strikeout.

Cabrera, the reigning AL MVP and current frontrunner for the award, is batting .355/.446/.676 this season. He leads the AL in batting average and RBI and trails Chris Davis of the Orioles in home runs. In 2012, Cabrera became the first hitter since Carl Yastrzemski in 1967 to win the Triple Crown. No hitter has ever achieved the feat in back-to-back seasons.
