On this date in 1993, Yankees left-hander Jim Abbott threw a no-hitter against the Albert Belle and Carlos Baerga led Indians. Here's the 27th out:
Abbott, if you don't know, was born without a right hand, which makes his no-hitter and really his entire career a remarkable accomplishment. He wasn't just a journeyman either. Abbott was the eighth overall pick in the 1988 draft and he finish third in the 1991 Cy Young Award voting by going 18-11 with a 2.89 ERA for the Angels. During his peak 1989-95, he had a 78-82 career record with a 3.77 ERA. Pretty amazing.
