Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter continues to struggle with his surgically repaired left ankle, as he was removed from Saturday's game against the Red Sox early. Manager Joe Girardi told reporters (Sweeny Murti) that he didn't like the way Jeter was running.

The Yankees have announced in a press release that Jeter underwent a precautionary CT scan, which came back negative. So there's no significant damage.

Jeter, 39, is hitting just .190/.288/.254 with one double, one homer and zero stolen bases this season. He's limited on the bases and even more than usual on defense. With Jeter out, Yankees shortstop have hit the ball terribly this season, but he isn't doing much better and still appears rather hampered by the ankle he broke during last season's ALCS.

The Yankees have lost three straight and fallen behind the Orioles and Indians in the race to catch the Rays for the second wild card in the AL.
